I needed to add over a dozen cross links on my tractor tires since my Ag tires tended to swallow up much of the original tire chain.  This too gave me plenty of leverage though at times the length was too great.  Was able to install the cross links without taking the chains off the tire if I rotated the wheel just right and moved the three point hitch all the way up or down depending which tire I was working on.  Plenty strong for 3/8" hooks.
